Replace Cartridge, Message

Hi, I was attempting to change my ink cartridges. When I lift the top section to get to the ink carriage, A message comes Up ( Close Scanner Unit ). While I do not use nor ever have used the scanner, I do not understand why I am receiving this message. Anyone who has had experienced this too, please help. My printer is Epson WF3620, it is about a year or more old.
