What printer is best?

Am brand new to fine art printing and own an Epson R3000. However, it is very expensive to print one fine art photo, especially if I have no sense of what to print. Is there a printer that I could purchase that would allow me to print something as a trial run in order to help me with this decision?

Are you using "color management" to calibrate / profile your monitor and printer?

If you live near a relatively large city, I'd be inclined to try to find a used CLI-8 based printer on Craigslist, which are relatively easy to refill (with a definite learning curve).

There tend to be a good supply of n.i.b. (new in box) or barely used Canon 9000-2 printers. They are CLI-8 based (using dye ink rather than pigment).
