Brother DCP-8040 Scans in Color but Cannot Scan or Copy in B&W

My Brother DCP-8040 can print from my PC and it can scan in color to my PC. However, if I attempt to scan in B&W or if try to make a copy, I get a garbage page with horizontal streaks. (See example below). It feels like I need to reset something, but I can't find what settings to change.

Does anyone have some suggestions? Thanks!
