Brother HL-L3290CDW PAPER JAM

I have a Brother HL-L3290CDW. It says "Jam Tray 1" "Remove the jammed paper from Tray 1". There is no paper jammed. I called Brother, which was not much help, and they said it was a "Hardware problem." I have removed everything which is removable and there is no paper or paper fragments anywhere in the printer. Anyone had this problem and have a remedy?
