Brother MFC-L8600 paper jam

I am getting a paper jam in the tray, it crinkles the paper in the middle and never allows it to pass through the printer. I have removed the roller above the tray and it still looks to be good but while printing from that tray it makes a horrible squealing sound like something is rubbing together. I can use the bypass tray and everything works fine. Am I right in thinking its the rollers above the tray unit? I also to make sure took a different tray from another printer and put it in this one and the problem still existed.
