I have a Brother MFC L5900DW. It is about two and a half years old. Since I updated the software to be compatible with Catalina on my iMac, the scan quality hasn't been very good. If I scan in color at any resolution, the background that should be white is gray. Even at True Gray at a 200 X 200 resolution, the background is gray. Of course, at higher resolutions, it is worse. I called tech support, but in the end they just told me that I would need to take the printer in to be serviced. Has anyone had similar problems?

Go to Brother-usa website and search for your printer. Download and install updated firmware and see if that helps. You'll have to download a tool to do that also!
