Canon deceit

Four years ago we purchased 15x Prixma IP7250 printers. We initially replaced the inks with genuine cartridges but as the costs became substantial we used refills. Two years ago three printers started to malfunction so they were put aside. Later four others became faulty and we noticed some faults were identical. Later all the others introduced faults. We examined all of these faults and noticed that many were similar and the others also were similar. We then suspected these faults were introduced by the canon manufacturer in order to deter the use of refills. One of our staff started to look into the problem and we now understand the eprom was loaded with software that introduces a corruption if it notices the use of non Canon cartridges. If the software was initially downloaded from new and when a fault developed the eprom was reloaded with the initial software, the IP7250 started to work correctly! How can Canon justify the disposal of perfectly sound printers in this day and age.

In a word Money, they make their money from selling you ink, not printers, if you don't buy their ink they may make the printer fail through firmware. I have seen many a printer fail to recognise cartridges that have worked faultlessly fail to recognise them after a stealth firmware update that the owners did not instigate.

Try to prove that's what they have done in a court of law is almost impossible.

Most makers of electronic devices do not want their devices to work without fault indefinitely, most hope it only lasts the warranty period, so you have to buy another one. They use all sorts of little tricks, like Epson do with their your waste ink tank ink is full error, only if you do take it out to empty you find it's got loads of room for ink waste, but knowing most users don't bother changing the pads or sending the printer in for service, most just scrap a serviceable printer and buy a new one. They care not that all these printers are ending up in landfill as long as we continue to give them our money.

Remember just because we are paranoid does not mean we are incorrect ;)

If what you say is true (Canon has introduced software/virus to damage people's printers if they don't use Canon cartridges, that's illegal, would result in a huge fine and huge class-action settlement.

If you actually have proof of this, send it to your state's attorney general. Post it on the BBB site. Share you information - you'd be helping countless consumers.

Can you give us the steps to remove the virus and upload the other software? Thanks.
