Canon Easy Photo Print iPad app

I have a new PIXMA MG6220. Airprint has been activated, and I've installed the Canon Easy Photo Print iPad app. When I open the app, it requires me to activate the iPad Location Service. I need to understand why this is necessary. I would only be printing photos that are already on my iPad, and I don't see the need to activate this service.
