Canon Pixma iP4500 hardware printer error

I have a Canon Pixma iP4500 7 years old and was working fine 'till it stopped working showing and error code of 5200 (orange light flashes 8 times) remedied apparently by pressing the resume button and/or turning off at the mains and back on again - hasn't worked. Any ideas?
