Canon PIXMA ip4500 OK for ip4700?

My Canon PIXMA ip4500 recently died, leaving me with a number of unused cartridges. I have replaced it with an ip4700 and am wondering if I can use the left over cartridges in the new printer. I will do some research on the web but would be happy to get a quick and simple answer.

Those printers do NOT use the same ink.

The iP4500 uses the CLI-8 and the iP4700 uses the CLI-221 and the PGI-220
