canon pixma mp 500 HELP!

I am getting a pop up every time I try to print saying incapatiable device in direct printport such as dig camera. The only cable I have hooked up is the one from printer to computer. Nothing has changed. It will not allow me to print. Before this happened I had another problem. Everytime the printer powered up it would immediatly shutdown. So I removed the printhead and it would stay on. So I replaced the printhead and now this. Please help.
