Epson P800 black/grey gradient turns pitch black

This photo has a black blackground with a flash on it, it has a bit of grey gradient separating the objects from the bakcground. But when I print its pitch black, no greadient what so ever. I print using Photoshop, proofing it with the right icc-profile. Why is this? any ideas?
