I have an Epson perfection v39 scanner, which uses USB 2.0. I have a new computer that has only 3.1 USB 3.1 ports. The scanner does not seem to be able to draw electric power from the 3.1 port, although it does still work with the old pc's 2.0 port (when I can get it to boot up).
I would have thought the 3.1 would be backwards compatible -- was I wrong? Is there something I can tweak to get this working? Bearing in mind that I don't know for sure this is the cause of the problem; it just seems like the first thing to check out.
