Epson R2000 - paper light comes on when loading roll paper

Gosh, I hate to think I'll never be able to print a panoramic. Each and every time I try to load the roll paper, with or without a connection to the computer, the paper seems to load properly but the paper light always comes on. Pressing the roll button for any length of time does nothing. Pressing the paper button causes the paper to feed out about twenty seven inches (I've been trying to print something 13x27) and the light comes on again. Keeps doing the same thing until all the paper is off the roll. If anyone has an idea I would sure appreciate hearing about it.
