Printer Smearing

Have an Epson Artisan 810. The black ink cartridge keeps smearing the print on plain paper however; when printing directly to
a CD/DVD it doesn't smear. here is what I've done so far.
1) Ran clean facility several times on jets
2) Replaced the cartridge several times
3) Used damp paper towel to clean carriage multiple times
4) Used a kit to clean the ports several times

The other colors are not smearing so I don't know where the problem lies.
Any input would be appreciated.
