Refilling Lexmark Z2490 inkjet

I have come to a dead end and wonder if anyone else can help. I am trying to refill the catridges on my partners Lexmark Z2490 as the new ones are £25 each. I have managed to break open the top of them and get the ink in, however the printer is now rejecting them and saying they are empty and need to be replaced. I have tried installing them as new catridges but still the same problem.

I know you will all say get rid of it and get a new one but I desperatly need to print a file tonight and obviously there are no shops open to buy a new one.

Can anyone help?
