Black Ink Cartridge Intermittently Using Too Much Ink

it just started happening and it's going back and forth between printing with the right amount to using too much so that everything it prints is soaking the page, not streaking or bleeding(couldn't figure out the google keywords for this), just imposing too much of itself. I'll switch between different documents and paper and it will change, but then go back, can't figure out any pattern except that it appears to use too much with card stock paper but so far it's printed correctly also on card stock, so I'm not sure. It's like a setting is being arbitrarily changed. what is up with this strange behavior?

Check that out. The test page by the printer is the same card stock paper as my own custom ink test doc, but mine is set as an envelope and you can see how the black over saturates. Idk if the paper size is the difference. Again, this only happens half the time. It's definitely being temperamental.

Found out the issue; I have two types of card stock, one is .01" thick and the other is .013" which is the one that the ink works fine with. But I got the thinner one because the printer can't pull the thick one through it fast enough to print correctly. Note: it once did.

But why isn't the color cartridge producing the same issue?

Do I just need to get a laser printer?

Don't know why can't link to a pic.
