Brother MFC-8710DW Scanning Issue

I have a Brother MFC-8710DW that is accessed across the LAN from a Windows 8.1 machine with Control Center 4

When attempting to scan to a file (PDF), it works fine for the first scan. When attempting another scan to file, however, the Control Center becomes unresponsive, requiring a CTRL-ATL-DEL to bring up the Task Manager and kill the application.

Re-launching it allows you precisely one scan before this happens again. If I close it after each scan and re-launch, it works fine, but this isn't something that should have to be done.

I can't really test this with another machine as this is the only machine that uses the 8710 for this purpose.

Has anyone come across something like this in the past, and if so, are there any suggestions for resolving it?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
