Carriage not moving to centre/ Flashing Lights/Cannon iP4200

I have Cannon iP4200. Ran out of black ink, only use black ink all others are empty. Bought replacement cartridge. Turned on printer now the On Light green flashes alternatley with the orange Resume light. Lift top cover, the cartridge carrier do'es not move to centre to allow cartridge replacement. Anyone have experienced the problem. I have disconnected the computer lead and turned off/on main power, no change.
