Epson WF-7820 and compatible ink cartridges

Just starting off with my WF-7820 and ordered my first set up Epson Genuine ink cartridges. Over the years with my HP printer, I’ve had good results with compatible cartridges. Epson says they may not work with firmware updates. What is the experience other users are getting with this particular model?
