HP Color Laserjet 3500 blinking light on formatter

I have an HP color laserjet with a blinking light on the back of the formatter board. The printer will not print. Does anyone know what the blinking light means?

I have come across that to be network activity (same as a pc) is it green or amber light?

The green light should be blinking and its not part of the ethernet, it's known as the heartbeat indicator. Is the printer connected by USB or ethernet? When you say it isn't printing are you getting any activity when you send a print job, or does it sit there stupid and non reactive?
