HP Laserjet 2300 Series 2

I recently upgraded my MAC to OS 10.13.2 This has coincided with the Laserjet 2300 series 2 printer showing an error message "20 Insufficient memory" This is an old printer but has always behaved well. I'm confused. Is this a printer driver issue or firmware issue, something other or a fundemental problem with the printer?

you can try different HPLJ 2300 postscript driver, PCL5, PCL6 or the HP Universal driver

Have just installed additional memory. 8MB/32MB Flash memory. The printer gives a warning "Disk Not Initialized" but as it performs as expected I'm not concerned. I believe I should have installed Dimm memory to have avoided the conflict.
