ip3600-can't print emails

Canon Pixma ip3600 printer. About two years old.
Stopped printing emails, screen images, etc. yesterday. Output is multiple pages of gibberish. Can still print Documents and spreadsheets from MS Office, Open Office, etc., as well as documents like financial statements in Adobe format.
Deleted software and reinstalled. Same results.
