Scanner has blank space

Greetings all. I have an Espson WorkForce WF-7710 and there's a consistent blank rectangle on anything I try and scan. Supposedly I'm up to date with the driver software.

Can this be corrected? After 7 years I would buy another but it has an 11 x 17 scanning surface which they no longer make that large.

And now the block is breaking up into lines. WTH??
