Troubleshooting unwanted vertical lines on Kyocera FS4000DN

This lovely fast printer prints unwanted lines of different densities on the rightmost 4 cm of each and every page. Once the fault disappeared after a month of no use, but has now re-appeared. What can I do about it?

As this printer has done over 50,000 pages, a major replacement part is probably required, the cost of which easily exceeds the price of more youthful used printers. I have therefore scrapped the printer.
