what is causing my waste hopper to over fill so soon

I have a Canon MF8580cdw. I recently bought refilled toner cartridges and installed them. Since replacing the cartridges I have printed about 200 -250 business letters. Suddenly a grey streak started appearing on one side of the letters. I spoke with Canon Tech Support and we determined the problem was with the toner cartridge.

So I contacted the guy that sold me the cartridge and he claims the problem is that the waste hopper is overfilling. Which I think I have confirmed via some searching online.

The refill guy claims that the reason the waste hopper is filling so soon is because I am printing a lot of black on the page and very little of another color. In this case, the entire letter was black except for the signature which was blue.

Is this a true cause of this? If so, is there any way to avoid it?

Thanks,
Bob
