Brother HL-5250 won't detect paper

I have a brother hl-5250dn. It will print fine if I load the paper manually. But when the paper is in the tray, I will hear it starting, but then the light comes on and indicates it is out of paper, when it isn't. I have done a very thorough search for any paper jammed in there. Pulled out the drum, pulled out the back, etc. I was in contact with Brother support, but they weren't helpful at all.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! It is a great printer and I would hate for this to ruin it.
