Canon iP100 printer doesn't print pictures... please help!!

I have a Canon iP100 printer that I bought a year ago. I've yet to print a single decent picture with it. I've basically given up. Every time I try to print one (from day one), it comes out horrendously - totally faded, lined, sometimes magenta, sometimes with a blue-ish tint... I've replaced the ink cartridges several times, to no avail. I have no idea how to fix it, as I am not computer smart, but honestly this is starting to seem ridiculous even to me. Help, please! :(

I'd start by removing as many "degrees of freedom" variables as possible to try to diagnose what is going on.

A first step would be printing a test print of a known image using all default settings. There is a good one, with explanation, at:
