Epson Workforce 645 Setup Issues

    Hi I had bought a Epson 645 brand new from Office Depot and took it with me to India where the AC power is 220V. I bought a converter 220V-110V. When I switched the printer on the first time, it took me to the setup screen. After I keyed in the setup details like language, date, time, etc. it displayed a message to install the cartridge for just 1 sec and then immediately restarted displaying the setup screen again. When I tried opening the scanner lid to install the cartridges, the cartridge cover does not move out of its slot to enable opening it.
    One key thing that I noticed is that the LED in the 220-110 adapter flickers everytime the printer restarts. So is the adapter the culprit or is something wrong with the printer itself?
    I really appreciate your inputs and suggestions in solving this.
