Life of toner cartridges?

How long do colour toner cartridges last if not much colour printing is done. I am considering replacing my inkjet colour printer that is not working very well with a laser colour printer. I use a mono laser for most of my printing. The colour cartridges are quite expensive but if they deliver their stated capacity over a long time then it would be worthwhile.
