M2830DW Laser Printer

I just bought a Samsung M2830DW (the first one just printed jagged smear down the right side instead of a printer test page). The one I have now is connected to a gigabit ethernet switch and the lights for the printer and the internet has been flashing on and off at super high speed since I connected (3 days constantly). I've tried not sharing the printer, resetting the printer and the switch and a few other things to no avail. Is my personal data on it's way to Samsung's server somewhere? Is there a free program that will tell me the IP addresses this thing is connecting to? In the mean time I've unplugged the ethernet cable till I get to the bottom of this. Thanks, -KeithW

The smear is probably a toner issue
It is normal, and no nothing is downloading, it is simply transferring the equivalent of "can you hear me now?"
that is how everything knows its connectedd in real time
