Magicolor 4650 DN -- new user difficulties

A (very nice) friend donated a Konica Minolta Magicolor 4650 DN printer to our music school and I am trying to set it up to run on Mac OS X 10.6.8. I downloaded and installed the correct printer driver (thank you) and set-up the printer in the Print & Fax control panel. So far so good.

I am able to print a test sheet but...

When I send a job to print, I only get a cover sheet (with some ascii text, something about PS-Adobe-3.0) across the top, and then it shows that it will print a 110 page document and starts spewing blank pages, no document. Test page works fine.​

This will be quite a nice printer for the music school, it only has 2,189 page count. Has anyone had experience getting this printer to work? I put several hours into it already and I don't really want to take it to the ASP for this kind of issue, any help would be appreciated.
