Hello,
This is my first time to post on this forum. This is probably a reflection of how reliable I've found Brother printers to be in the past (this is my third in about 25 years). Recently, I reset my PC and reinstalled all software on it. This printer has been working perfectly for the past six years, however since the software reinstall the printer has been behaving oddly.
When I send a print job to the machine, nothing happens. After a while an error message is displayed on the PC screen that printing failed, and the printer monitor status indicates that the printer is offline. About five minutes later the reqested job is printed, even though the printer status remains offline.
The printer itself is connected on my house network using a wired ethernet connection. The printer is assigned a fixed IP address from the network router. I can ping this IP address from the PC. I verified that there are no address assignment clashes on the network, by switching the printer off and verifying that pinging the printer now fails.
I've tried the following:
- I checked the PC's control panel. This indicates that the following printer is installed: Brother MFC-L5750DW series
- I checked the PC's device manager. This indicates that the following device is installed under Imaging devices: Brother MFC-L5750DW LAN, and the following device is installed under Printer queues: Brother MFC-L5750DW series. Does this mean that two separate devices are installed, for printing and for scanning?
- I installed the Brother network connection repair tool. This tools indicates that the two printers mentioned above were found on the network: Brother MFC-L5750DW series and Brother MFC-L5750DW LAN. The tool was unable to repair either of the two printers
- I uninstalled the printer software using the Brother Utilities app, rebooted the PC and reinstalled the complete software. During the installation, the printer is not detected during the printer detection phase. However, when I manually enter the printer's IP address, it is correctly identified. When I completed the software installation, printing still fails, and the printer is still offline.
Can anyone help?
Paul
