Replaced Epson WF-2540 Ink Cartridge, still says "empty"

I recently replaced my EPSON WF-2540 printer with black ink. I placed a brand new ink cartridge in the printer, and the printer still thinks it is empty. Is there a way I can reset the ink levels to "brand new"?
