Samsung ML2026 found by router using USB but won't print

My Samsung ML2026 printer is not wifi but I connected to my router with the USB cable and followed the comprehensive WikiHow thread for How to Connect a USB Printer to a Network with my Windows 10 PC - apparently successfully - with latest driver. However, the printer is not responding and the Samsung 'app' shows the printer as offline, despite the router detected and seeing the printer. I can print when connecting directly to the PC instead with same cable. Suggested solution welcomed - thanks.
