Suppressing Color Printing On Samsung C460fw Laser Printer

Have had this printer for 2 years. Am now on 4th black toner cartridge. I almost never print colours, yet all my colour toner cartridges are now empty.
I contacted Samsung (chat) and was told to specify 'grayscale' when printing, to suppress use of colours. I can do this in WORD but not in other programs. Does anyone know how to block use of colours directly in printer software??

Navigate as follows:

Click Control Panel -> Click Devices & Printers -> Right Click C460FW Icon -> Select Printing Preferences
Under Main Tab or Advanced Tab Select Black/Gray Scale
Click Save or OK
This will become your new "default" preference.

Thanks! One important piece of information I should have included is that I print files from a MacBook or an iPhone. Printers are accessed via 'system preferences', which does not lead to control options like you describe under 'control panel' on a PC.
