What is your opinion on generic ink cartridges?

I've had two canon inkjet printers that print text in a wave especially bar codes for shipping. I don't know if it is because i use off brand ink but it will work fine for a while then eventually have a wave to it. I only print black so image quality is not a concern.

A print head alignment or nozzle clean makes no difference. Do you think it is ink related?

Sounds as a paper feed issue. Have you tired another brand or type of paper?
Can you take a photo of this?

As to your titles question, I refill my Canon carts all the time. I have a specif method that seem to work ok. I have a 2nd set of carts already filled and re-set, I just swap the empty ones out and refill them afterwards.
