Brother HL-4040CN won't take paper from tray 1

Hi

My Brother HL-4040CN won't take paper from tray 1. It insists on taking paper from the MP tray, which is extremely impractical to have open all the time. I have it connected via a USB cable.

Maybe somethings stuck in the paper sensor of the manual tray? So it thinks theres paper in there

it says 'insert paper to mp tray' so I don't think that's it. thanks anyway

Probably you have set the manual paper tray to primary. Check the settings

I've done that in the settings and it doesn't seem to work...
