Brother HL-L2350DW toner question

I have been using the Brother HL-L2350DW printer with its initial Brother toner for a while without problem. But the toner has expired and so I replaced it with what Amazon said was a compatible toner, JaguteTN-2420 TN-2410. After installing this in the printer I am unable to print anything. I keep getting a message saying no toner. I've read everything I could find from Brother but nothing helps although I gather that I'm not alone among users with a problem like this. My question is this: Is it the substitute toner that's causing the problem or is it something else?
I'd really appreciate any advice you can give me. I could of course buy a Brother toner but I'm hesitant to do so for fear the same problem would arise with it. Thanks in advance.
