HP 8500 all in one Pro Print to File

I have printed to file yet when attempting to go back , recover and print the file the printer will not accept the file as valid. I have tried a number of different extensions to no avail, copied and sent lpt1 etc with the same result. GS or Adobe does the same.. Anyone encounter this problem. HP of course avoided the issue.
