Print Defect Help - HP M452 -

I have an HP LaserJet Pro M452d that has begun to print defectively. The odd thing is that it does not show the defect when I run the cleaning cycle. See the attached prints. I am using non-HP toner. I am at a loss as to the issue and hope it's just a bad black cartridge, which I will now replace with an HP brand. (I don't want to buy a very costly and nonreturnable HP cartridge if the particular defect in the print quality is related to something serious and not repairable). Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
