Printer head cleaning epson DX8450

We have just acquired DX8450 which has not been used for some time, have tried several head cleaning operations and nearly used up a new set of inks but still have poor result approx. every 4th line is not completely printed is it a case of keep cleaning until it prints correctly or is there something else we can do to get the printing back to normal.
