Confused about Brother drums and cartridges

I am looking to buy this entry level laser/multifunction model HL-L3230CDW. I understand the four color cartridges, but I am not clear at all about the drum. Is there one drum or a drum for every color? I guess this shows my ignorance. Info is most appreciated.
